Lent begins on February 22 -ASH WEDNESDAY

      The Fellowship Ministry Team invites everyone to attend the Ash Wednesday dinner at 5:45   p.m. on February 22 in Fellowship Hall.  On the dinner menu will be the popular penne chicken and vegetarian pasta dish from Corner Café, vegetables, salad, bread, dessert and beverages. Cost: adults – $5; children (ages 6-12) – $3; ages 5 and
under – free; with a maximum charge of $15 per family.   Your reservation is important, so please let us know if you plan to attend the dinner, or if you need infant and toddler child care, by contacting the church office by phone at 425-1760 or email: june@springdalechurch.org no later than SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19.  You may also complete the reservation form provided in the church bulletin on Sunday.

      Worship  will begin at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.  The service will be a joint service of Springdale Presbyterian Church and the Rabbouni Catholic Community, and will include the imposition of ashes.

Trivia Night is March 3

Gather a team and gather all the trivia you have stored up from your life-time and come to Springdale Presbyterian Church for Trivia Night at 7 p.m. on March 3.  Come prepared to laugh and have a great time. There will be awesome door prizes. You are welcome to bring your supper or snacks.  Beverages will be provided. The cost is $15/person.  Tickets are available in the gathering area on Sunday mornings and by calling 502-425-1760 from 9-5 on week-days.  All procedes help the Presbyterian Youth Connection minister through mission trips and attend conferences. Hope you can join us.

       Springdale again picks winner of Super Bowl  with Souper Bowl

       Many thanks for your giving your dollars and cans to the Souper Bowl of Caring. There  
   were 144 cans of soup plus other canned food totaling 166 cans and $214.58 given -
    $167.31 was designated for the New York Giants and $24.27 for the New England
     Patriots (the remainder wasn’t specified).   All monies and food have gone to feed hungry
     people through Eastern Area Community Ministies.  To learn more about the Souper

Springdale Presbyterian Church (Presbyterian Church USA)
located in the east end of Louisville has an opening for a Director of Music to
lead our music ministry.  The successful
candidate will have a background in diverse/various forms of church music and
share our passion in our music ministry.
The opening is for a regular, full time position.

In the recent past SPC  had two (2) worship services, a celebration
service with a Praise Team and a traditional service with a Chancel Choir. In
the course of these services we utilize our pipe organ, keyboard/piano in
addition to various musical instruments, 3 octave handbell choirs, children and
youth choirs, men and women’s choirs, etc.
Presently, we are reviewing our worship patterns and look forward to
charting a new course.

The misty rain and the snarled traffic could not stop people from gathering for the Ground Blessing for the Bill Martin Habitat House on September 24.  The framing was going up when the workers paused for lunch and the ground blessing.  They were joined by the Martin family, some who had traveled from other states, congregation members from Springdale and other Mid-Kentucky Presbytery churches, the family advocate, and the family–Breshia and Keith.  The children from A Place to Call Home elementary class shared a choral reading as a part of the ground blessing.  Breshia and Keith shared their thanks for the partnership and the group prayed blessing upon each nail and board and upon the home it would become.  Thanks be to God!

On September 18, Springdale threw a Party in the Parking Lot with the community.  Everyone was welcomed and signed up for door prizes and then moved on to eat nachos, homemade cookies, and hot dogs or check out the Afla Romeo Car Show.  They relaxed to the rhythms and sounds from the 60s to today provided by Moondance and Silly Putty and delighted in the Latino dancers dancing traditional Mexican and Mayan dances.  Everyone checked out the fire truck from Worthington Fire Department.  Children and youth could be found hopping on the inflatable, getting their face painted, watching the magician, playing tag football, or enjoying the playground.  The shed the elementary children help build for the Bill Martin Habitat House was put up so that everyone could sign it with blessings.  A whole grocery cart of food was collected for Eastern Area Community Ministries.  There was laughter and dancing, conversation, and community.  It was a great time for everyone to enjoy being together.

      Creating a Culture of Generosity

What does it mean to live n a culture where generosity is the norm? Where we live out of abundance rather than fear? Where God’s call is central to our lives as individuals and as a congregation? Where we think about giving not just our money, but our time, our giftedness and consider our stewardship of creation and of our whole life? What does this look like practically in our everyday lives?

As a congregation we will be thinking and praying and exploring together in worship, and as John Davis facilitates a class on Sunday mornings September4 and 11. One opportunity to respond to what we learn about our call together will be on October 23 during worship.
