The 2011 Jamaica/USA Exchange Experience

Richard and Doris Trautwein  hosted 2 mission partners, Jason and Nick,  from Jamaica

Dear Jason:  Doris and I were pleased to share our Church with Nick, you, and your colleagues, our home with Nick and you, and we will now share your letter with others.  Your quiet exercise of leadership and faith have enriched members of our church community, your colleagues, and Doris and I.  We were reminded the times when our families slept in the same rooms that you occupied. 

I have three sons and a daughter each of whom lived at one time or another in the same rooms.  Dorishas two beautiful daughters and two grandchildren. They too have slept in those same rooms and beds.  Nick and you brought these “family” qualities that are so important to Doris and I.

I have very warm though old memories ofMontego Bay, the beautiful ocean, driving up and along the crest of the mountain, and the many warm smiles of the people.  Nick has a countenance that radiates and fills the room.   I don’t know whether we will have the opportunity to return, but in many ways Nick and you brought Jamaca to us.

I talked with Ben  this morning.  Ben shares your like of the oatmeal cookies.  I now chuckle at the pitchfork joke we played on him. Ben will start at Davidson in two weeks.  Ben and his sister, like Nick and you, are gifted young people.

Doris and I will think of Nick and you when we return to Graeters and have Cookies and Cream ice cream.  In the meantime, Doris and I are finishing up the Peach ice cream.

Keep up your ministry.  You have enriched our lives.  You will enrich many others. You are evidence of God’s love.  Keep us informed.
