Special Offerings

Special offerings

We share our resources to fund Presbyterian charitable outreach.

Special Offerings of the PC(USA)

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering

Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God’s love with people experiencing need. Our gifts support ministries of disaster response, refugee assistance and resettlement, and community development that help people find safe refuge, start new lives and work together to strengthen their families and communities.  Recognizing that the hope we have in Christ is lived out in our hope for one another, we respond with gifts that help our sisters and brothers around the world find the hope for a brighter future.

Pentecost Offering

The Pentecost Offering provides a direct way to meet the needs of children at risk, youth, and young adults. The congregation keeps 40 percent of the Offering to support ministry with children at risk in their communities. The General Assembly’s portion (60 percent) provides leadership development opportunities for Presbyterian youth and young adults and supports children-at-risk programs at the national level. Since 1998, Presbyterians of all ages have raised over $7 million for these ministries that benefit younger members of God’s family.

Peacemaking Offering -World Communion Sunday

The Peacemaking Offering, created in 1980, supports the efforts of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to live out a deeper commitment to peacemaking as part of our faithfulness to God.  We receive the offering on World Communion Sunday, the first Sunday in October.  The congregation retains 25 percent of the offering it receives to use for local ministries of peacemaking within the church and its community. Twenty-five percent is used by the presbytery and synod, and 50 percent is used by the General Assembly ministries through the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.

Christmas Joy Offering

A Presbyterian tradition for almost 70 years, the Christmas Joy Offering is designated by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to provide congregations direct ways of supporting specific causes that help those in need.  Fifty percent of the receipts are distributed to the Board of Pensions for assistance programs that provide support to retired and active church workers and their spouses and families. The other fifty percent supports Presbyterian-related racial ethnic education through the General Assembly Council. The Christmas Joy Offering is usually received the Sunday before Christmas.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and focuses on the long term recovery of disaster impacted communities.

Presbyterian Hunger Program

The Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP) is a ministry of the PC(USA) working with congregations and partners around the globe to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes.

Self-Development of People

A ministry of the Presbyterian Church  (U.S.A.), Self-Development of People is a partnership of love, justice and empowerment, helping congregations reach out to communities of need.
